Phyllis Johnson fell in love with the rhythm and flow of words at an early age. A photojournalist for newspapers and national magazines, she writes a weekly column and is a restaurant reviewer. She's the author of three published poetry books; Hot and Bothered By It, midlife humor for women; Twelve is for More Than Doughnuts, poetry and essays based on the Bible; and Being Frank with Anne, a poetic interpretation of Anne's diary. She has conducted writing workshops, hosted open mic nights and worked with a teen writing group at a high school. She and Nancy Naigle have co-authored a young adult suspense titled Inkblot. Other works are underway including ekfrastic poetry with local artists and possible production of a play she has written based on one of her books.
BEING FRANK WITH ANNE is a poetic interpretation of Anne Frank’s diary.
It is through Being Frank With Anne that the reader will gain a deeper insight and stronger connection to Anne's world. Phyllis Johnson's work is intended for teen readers but will appeal to all ages.
Phyllis says: This poetry collection was archived at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and when I heard that her cousin, Buddy Elias, who heads up the Anne Frank Fonds in Switzerland , liked my book and remarked that Anne would have liked it too, I couldn't have been more proud. HOT AND BOTHERED BY IT contains fifty fun poems all celebrating (okay, so we're using that word celebration loosely) the midlife experience for women.
· Do you suffer from Oreoporosis?
· Is there an instant Mess-age at your house when you go away?
· Is a period just punctuation found in your romance novels while you fan yourself?
If you can relate to any of these circumstances, you may be going through a midlife chrysalis. If you find yourself with a group of women playing such games as the "Millionaire Purse Game," wearing red and purple together and eating chocolate until you pass out, then this book is for you.The perfect companion for entertaining you and your friends at your next night out, or as a gift for your best friend who is hitting that "age". SENIOR DISCOUNT is just one of the many poems you'll enjoy.
I find your poetic interpretation of the Anne Frank diary very interesting indeed. As a historian and teacher (of German history specifically; 19th/20th century Germany was my specialty), I think this might serve as a fascinating teaching tool. Students are so often challenged by perspective, point of view, and narration, even in history. Seeing Anne's story from her own perspective, and from yours, could be an enriching way to discover truth and meaning using two very different forms. Best to you, Michelle Elvy
